It comprises the upper reaches of the River Cam, flowing north from Saffron Waldon, and its major tributaries the River Rhee, which rises at Ashwell springs in Hertfordshire, and the River Granta between Saffron Waldon and Haverhill.\n\nRivers are characterised by their base flow from the underlying chalk geology. The catchment is predominantly rural with an agricultural land use. The catchment has important wetland Sites of Special Scientific Interest.
