About
The Headington Corallian Groundwater Body (GWB) describes part of the Corallian strata between the River Ray to the north, the River Thame to the south and the Thames/Cherwell to the West. The Headington Corallian GWB is located to the north of the London Basin syncline. Springs emerge from the Headington Corallian GWB to flow mainly southwards into the River Thame however some springs emerge to the north of the GWB to flow into the River Ray or west to the Thames/Cherwell. The Headington Corallian is a Secondary A Aquifer with water-bearing permeable strata that provide a moderate level of storage. Generally they consist of interbedded sands and limestones. The majority of the unit lies between the Oxford Clay to the north and the Kimmeridge Clay to the south which are unproductive strata. There are no public water abstractions in the Headington Corallian GWB.
