    About

The Crane is a lowland river system that flows through West London (rising in Harrow as the Yeading Brook). The catchment also includes the Portlane Brook and man-made rivers connected to the Colne. Historically the catchment has been modified for industry and transport: once famed for its water mills, todays notable industrial sites include Heathrow Airport. Motorways and mainline railways pass through large areas of urban and suburban development. Consequently, the rivers have been greatly modified and are at risk of pollution. Nevertheless, they are part of West Londons Green Chain, a vital wildlife corridor, much valued by local communities.
