Looking to the future we will adopt the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) new Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) as they become available.The current provision of proprietary geospatial services (Esri REST APIs including Esri REST Services and Esri Image Services) will be phased out over time. The Esri Image Services currently used to supply some LiDAR datasets will be replaced by OGC Web Coverage Services.DSP will also provide linked open data to enable machine-readable data connections enhancing data exploitation and analysis.The open data approach provides several benefits, including the provision of free and openly accessible data. However, the impact of provisioning open data is that users do not have to register to use the service. This can be done by selecting &lsquo;Log in&rsquo; on the top right of the new Service Desk portal. You will need to provide your email address. Then click on &lsquo;Sign up to continue&rsquo; to register. Users will continue to be able to submit tickets without a login, if preferred. All internal Defra users needing to report an issue with the DSP should now do so via the Defra MyIT Service Desk instead of the DSP Service Desk portal.<hr/>AnnouncementWe are excited to inform you that improvements are coming to the Data Services Platform (DSP)!The DSP is being migrated onto a new and improved platform providing improved functionality and extended data services. The future focus for the DSP will be to concentrate on the provision of data in Open Standards. For spatial data services this will be based on Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Standards, including new OGC API-Features and Web Coverage Services (WCS). These will be additions to the current OGC Web Mapping (WMS) and Web Feature (WFS) Services. As a result, existing links to Esri REST and Image services will be gradually decommissioned.Esri usersEsri users may need to adapt to use OpenSource APIs, especially those who use the current services (web or desktop) in custom applications. Web Map Service (WMS) layers provide a static image for a specific layer for a given extent and spatial reference.  Web Feature Service (WFS) layers provide feature level access to a layer’s data. They are the OGC equivalent of Esri feature services and provide a textual based response to queries given an extent, spatial reference and optional attribute filter. <h4 id="NoticeofplannedmaintenanceandpotentialdisruptionoftheDataServicesPlatform-DateofAnnouncement:01October2024">Date of Announcement:  01 October 2024 </h4><h4 id="NoticeofplannedmaintenanceandpotentialdisruptionoftheDataServicesPlatform-FunctionalityAffected:DataServicesPlatform(DSP)">Functionality Affected: Data Services Platform (DSP)</h4><h4 id="NoticeofplannedmaintenanceandpotentialdisruptionoftheDataServicesPlatform-DateofChange:14October2024">Date of Change: 14 October 2024</h4><hr/>Notice of planned maintenance and potential disruption of the Data Services Platform (DSP) on the 14th of October. <h4 id="NoticeofplannedmaintenanceandpotentialdisruptionoftheDataServicesPlatform-Announcement:">Announcement:</h4>On the 14th of October between 17:00-19:00 maintenance is scheduled to route <a class="external-link" href="http://environment.data.gov.uk" rel="nofollow">Defra Data Services Platform</a> to a new Application Gateway.   We do not anticipate downtime but if the change is unsuccessful, we would need to revert it.  This could result in downtime in the live environment for up to an hour’s duration.
