About
The River Clun Operational Catchment is predominantly rural consisting mainly of medium sized family farms. Livestock (beef and sheep) dominate but there is also extensive arable including potatoes and maize. The area is almost exclusively within the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) which encourages recreation and tourism. The main urban areas are the rural towns of Clun, Bishops Castle and Leintwardine. The lower Clun contains a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) to protect the Freshwater Pearl Mussel which is in decline. Tributaries of the Clun include the Rivers Kemp, Unk and Redlake.
