The main watercourses of this catchment, the Rivers Burn, Glaven and Stiffkey are Chalk Rivers, a habitat that is internationally rare. Due to the high permeability of the drift and chalk, all the rivers have significantly high base flows. At least 75% of flows in the Burn, Stiffkey and Glaven are derived from groundwater.
