    About

The Byfield Jurassic Groundwater Body (GWB) describes part of the Lias Geological Group. The principal water bearing water-bearing strata within the Lias in the Groundwater Body is the Marlstone Rock Bed, which is part of the Middle Lias. The Marlstone Rock Bed is classified as Secondary Aquifer. The Marlstone Rock Bed is covered over much of the area (largely by the Whitby Mudstone). It crops out over some of the groundwater body area. In particular in areas around springs (which often are the locations of Monitoring points). Where the Marlstone Rock Bed is exposed it can be susceptible to surface contamination.
