    About

The Dearne catchment centres on the urban area surrounding Barnsley and includes Skelmanthorpe in the west, Royston in the north and Mexborough in the east with Wath upon Dearne in the south. There are 15 surface water bodies in this catchment. The main tributaries of the Dearne include Cudworth Dyke, Silkstone Beck, Cawthorne Dyke, River Doe, Dudworth Dyke and Rockley Dike. The significant issues include the impact of water company discharges, run off from brown field land and agricultural land and physical modifications. This operational catchment contains the Dearne NIA which focusses on habitat connectivity along the Dearne valley.
