    About

The Crossens Catchment drains a low-lying area between Ormskirk and the edge of the Ribble Estuary near Banks, taking in the Sefton Coast and Southport. The population is approximately 150000 people and it is dominated by high grade agricultural land. The Crossens is drained and subject to intensive water-level management. The water quality pressures are from rural diffuse pollution, impacts from sewage discharges and some point-source pollution is septic tanks, an area that needs some research. The ecological potential ranges from high to bad, although the high & good status Waterbodies only account for a small percentage of the catchment.
