About
The Shrivenham Corallian Groundwater Body (GWB) describes part of the Corallian strata between the River Thames to the north and the River Ock to the south. The Shrivenham Corallian GWB is located to the north of the London Basin syncline. Springs emerge from the Shrivenham Corallian GWB to fail mainly southwards into the River Ock however some springs emerge to the north of the GWB to flow into the River Thames. The Shrivenham Corallian is a Secondary A Aquifer with water-bearing permeable strata that provide a moderate level of storage. Generally they consist of interbedded sands and limestones. The majority of the unit lies between the Oxford Clay to the north and the Kimmeridge Clay to the south which are unproductive strata. In a few places they lie adjacent to Lower Greensand exposures. A number of springs in the Marcham area which flow into the River Ock are saline in nature.
