    About

The Cocker operational catchment rises in the north-west Lakeland fells with the popular tourist destinations of Buttermere, Crummock Water and Loweswater lakes, before joining the main River Derwent catchment at Cockermouth to flow down to the Irish Sea. Large parts lie within the Lake District National Park and also form part of the Derwent and Tributaries Special Area of Conservation (SAC). Species include Atlantic salmon, Sea Trout and native White clawed crayfish. Land use is dominated by sheep farming, and there are some historical metal mine workings. The public water supply at Crummock Water influences the hydromorphology of this catchment.
