About
The Ellen & West Coast operational catchment is dominated by the River Ellen catchment, along with several hydrologically isolated water bodies that drain directly to the Irish Sea. Land use is dominated by livestock agriculture, with the small inland town of Aspatria and coastal town of Maryport are the only urban populations. There are several significant water company and industrial discharges and a domestic water supply at the head of the catchment utilising water from Chapelhouse Reservoir and Overwater. Species of note include Atlantic salmon and Sea trout.
