    About

The Irt, Mite, Esk & Annas operational catchment is comprised of 4 distinct watercourses draining the western fells of the Lake District National Park before flowing into the Irish Sea. Land use is dominated by sheep and beef farming, with managed forests in the upper catchment, and a nuclear installation on the coastal plain at Drigg. A key abstraction for the nuclear industry is from Wastwater, Englands deepest lake and a designated Special Area of Conservation. The tourist centre of Ravenglass, has a designated Shellfish Water within its estuary, and other species of note include Atlantic salmon and Sea trout.
