    About

Rising in the south eastern Lakeland fells, this operational catchment is dominated by the River Kent and its tributaries the Gowan, Mint and Sprint, large parts of which are designated as a Special Area of Conservation. Species include Atlantic salmon, Sea trout, White clawed native crayfish and Freshwater mussels. Land use is predominantly sheep and beef farming with some medium sized dairy farms in the lower catchment. The key town of Kendal sits astride the River Kent before it flows down to the Kent Estuary, with the nearby nationally important Leighton Moss and Haweswater SSSIs, designated for breeding birds.
