    About

The Sankey Operational Catchment is made up of seven small watercourses which include Sankey Brook, Black Brook, Windle Brook, Newton Brook, Rainford Brook, Sutton Brook and Whittle Brook. Sankey Operational Catchment flows for approximately 18 miles from farmland in Rainford to the River Mersey in Penketh and has a population of approximately 450,000 people. The operational catchment is approximately 30% urban and the towns of St Helens and Warrington were once heavily industrialised with coal mining, glass production and cable manufacturing the predominant industries. This operational catchment suffers from physical modifications and has a number of water quality pressures.
