About
Savick Brook and the South Fylde drains are lowland rivers and are quite slow flowing. The catchment is mainly rural, with dairy farming and private sewage systems impacting on water quality. Drainage of Lytham moss began in the 17th century, eventually forming Liggard Brook and Main drain with associated tributaries. Savick Brook was canalised in 2002 to provide a link between the Lancaster canal and the Rufford branch of the Leeds Liverpool canal via the Ribble Estuary. Clearly this involved heavy modification of a relatively natural brook which has severely limited the habitat within and around the waterbody.
