    About

The ‘Chobham Bagshot Beds’ Groundwater Body (GWB) is an unconfined body of groundwater residing in the sandy sediments of the Bracklesham Group and the unconsolidated sands and gravels associated with the River Thames floodplain. It outcrops over an area of about 355 sq. km and its western boundary conforms to the watershed between the Loddon and Wey river catchments. Its other boundaries are roughly defined by Guildford and Esher in the south / east and Bracknell and Egham in the north. The GWB is, in effect, perched above the London Clay Formation. The Bracklesham Group consists of the Bagshot Formation (oldest), the Windlesham Formation and the Camberley Sand Formation. These sands, of Upper Eocene age, form tracts of heathland in NE Surrey and SE Berkshire. They are classified as Secondary Aquifers and mainly supply groundwater for the irrigation of golf courses and nurseries.
