    About

The Thamesmead & Marsh Dykes Catchment consists of two waterbodies across the London boroughs of Bexley and Greenwich, fed by tributaries from the higher ground of Lesnes, Bostall and Shooters Hill woodlands. These are the ancient dykes of Crossness and Erith Marshes, and the largely artificial canals and lakes system of Thamesmead, now an integral part of the areas flood defences bordering the River Thames. Whilst relatively small it is dominated by Thamesmead, Abbey Wood and Belvedere, home to over 60,000 people, as well as retail and industrial development. Significant pressures challenge the biodiversity and amenity value of the catchment.
