About this subsection

This subsection of the SMP extends about 45km from the Scottish Border to Budle Point on the southern side of Budle Bay. It includes the towns of Eyemouth and Berwick-Upon Tweed, and the narrow rocky shoreline and hard rock cliffs north of Berwick.

South of Berwick, the character of the shoreline changes to a softer, more sediment-rich environment that includes Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve, Budle Bay and Holy Island itself.

The dunes and other coastal features on this shoreline are protected for their internationally important wildlife. The entire shoreline length is a protected Site of Special Scientific Interest.
