About this subsection
This subsection of the SMP, about 21km long from Filey Brigg to the southern limit of the SMP at Flamborough Head includes the spiral shaped bay in front of the town of Filey and the massive chalk cliffs at Speeton and Bempton that run to Flamborough Head.
As well as residential areas, Filey Bay’s shoreline is backed by tourist infrastructure, notably caravan parks and cafes at Primrose Hill, Hunmanby and Reighton.
The cliffs to the south and their seaward area are nationally and internationally protected for birds and other wildlife. Agriculture is the dominant land use, extending to the cliff edge in most areas, although there is also tourist infrastructure at Thornwick.
