Lineage

Under request of Cornwall Sea Fisheries Committee, this investigation was performed in order to confirm the presence of maerl offshore in Falmouth Bay and to make an initial assessment of the maerl biotope in the bay, how much was live, and the macrobenthic fauna associated with the maerl gravel.A limited search of the likely area and depth zones where maerl was likely to occur in Falmouth Bay was conducted on the 10th and 11th of April 2007A camera sledge of the area was performed at areas likely to contain maerl to determine transitions from mearl gravel habitats. A 0.1 m2 Day grab was deployed 3 times at each of 8 stations for further identification of taxa present.
