Lineage

The Sea Angling 2012 project includes a number of different surveys running in parallel to provide a detailed overview of all forms of sea angling throughout England during 2012. The Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas), in collaboration with individual inshore fisheries and conservation authorities (IFCAs), carried out surveys of anglers fishing from the shore and from private or rental boats throughout 2012. Anglers were interviewed during or after fishing to record their catch rates (kept and released) and the sizes of fish caught. The areas of coastline covered by the survey were divided up according to local knowledge of the typical amount of angling. The more popular stretches were covered more frequently than areas with less angling activity, to obtain the most accurate results. Surveys covered all days of the week and different times of day. The survey will also determine what proportion of the anglers are non-residents or under 16 years old and not covered by the ONS survey. Data from the nine participating IFCAs has been combined into a single one. The tables have been exported as .csv files. The IFCA Table Definition file contains SQL script basics for re-creating the database, it will need to be modified to suit the target database but provides enough information to build the tables manually if necessary. The data relationships as shown in the diagram below will then need to be applied manually. Codes for the fishing method fields are: +-+-----------------------------------------------+ |1|Angling with bait | | | | +-+-----------------------------------------------+ |2|Angling with lure / fly / jig | | | | +-+-----------------------------------------------+ |3|Angling: mix of bait and lures/fly/jig | | | | +-+-----------------------------------------------+ |4|Non-angling gears (nets; longline; pots; | | |spear) | +-+-----------------------------------------------+ |5|Mix of angling and non angling methods | | | | +-+-----------------------------------------------+
