Non-technical summary
About this subsection
This subsection of the SMP includes areas of grassland and agriculture claimed from inter-tidal marsh behind the Holme Dunes National Nature Reserve, a sand dune system running from Old Hunstanton through to Holme-next-the-Sea.
The tidal flood zone includes parts of the settlements of Old Hunstanton, Holme-next-the-Sea and Thornham, and the A149 near Old Hunstanton.
Hunstanton Cliffs are a well-known visitor interest and are protected for their geological interest. The whole shoreline and inter-tidal area, as well as some of the freshwater grazing marsh nearby, is legally protected by a series of designations that safeguard the internationally important bird populations and other wildlife which use the Wash and North Norfolk Coast. It is also within the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
