Dawlish Warren (West - hard defences) 6B22
Summary management approach
Approach is to hold the line in the short term, however the medium and long term policies were not defined at the time of SMP2 adoption, pending further sudies. Subsequently the Exe Estuary Strategy 2013 and Dawlish Warren Beach Management Post-Scheme Review 2023 have both confirmed Hold The Line as preferred long term approach. Formal SMP change process for policy to be followed in due course following final confirmation by the Exe Estuary Strategy Update in 2027.
Generic approach assigned to this unit
Management approaches depend on funding and relevant approvals and permissions. Adaptation to coastal change may be needed. If defences are present, some risk from flooding, erosion or ground instability may remain.
Time periods (short (0 to 20 years), medium (20 to 50 years) and long (50 to 100)) are approximate and do not signify precise dates of management transitions.
