About this subsection

Land adjacent to Portsmouth Harbour is a heavily developed low-lying area of considerable commercial, tourism, amenity, and military significance. The erosion and flood risk issues are addressed through managing a series of mainly local authority, Ministry of Defence or privately owned defences. These provide flood risk management to the important areas of residential, commercial, heritage and other development along with associated transport and community infrastructure. The inner harbour area is also legally protected for its internationally important wildlife.
