Langstone Harbour entrance (harbour) to Portsmouth Harbour entrance 5API01
Summary management approach
Maintain defence to the City of Portsmouth and associated residential areas, Ministry of Defence facilities, heritage sites and infrastructure critical to tourism and the regional economy, to protect from flooding and erosion. Since the SMP was adopted, a Strategy has been completed, and subsequently there have been a number of schemes undertaken in North Portsea Island, to implement the Hold the Line approach. Unit boundaries may require review to reflect outcomes.
Generic approach assigned to this unit
Management approaches depend on funding and relevant approvals and permissions. Adaptation to coastal change may be needed. If defences are present, some risk from flooding, erosion or ground instability may remain.
Time periods (short (0 to 20 years), medium (20 to 50 years) and long (50 to 100)) are approximate and do not signify precise dates of management transitions.
