Unit

Pendower East 10.2

Summary management approach

Investigate options for realigning the local road to an alternative inland route, then allow coastal evolution to occur in the long term, to maintain the nature conservation objectives for the internationally important protected area and encourage a more natural shoreline. Implications for risk to parking areas and potentially one property will also need to be considered. The Nare Hotel is not considered to be at risk during the lifetime of the SMP. The management approach at this location will be further informed by Cornwall Council's 'Making Space For Sand' project, which is being undertaken during the period 2021 - 2027, funded by the Environment Agency's Flood and Coastal Resilience and Innovation Programme.

Generic approach assigned to this unit

Management approaches depend on funding and relevant approvals and permissions. Adaptation to coastal change may be needed. If defences are present, some risk from flooding, erosion or ground instability may remain.

Time periods (short (0 to 20 years), medium (20 to 50 years) and long (50 to 100)) are approximate and do not signify precise dates of management transitions.

0 to 20 years (2005 to 2025)

MR5Managed realignmentRepair not replace

Where protection is currently provided by coastal defence structures that might be maintained or repaired if funding allows, but not replaced if they fail or reach the end of their design life.

20 to 50 years (2025 to 2055)

NI3No active interventionCease to maintain

Where defences are present, but it would be technically, economically, or environmentally unsustainable to maintain them.

50 to 100 years (2055 to 2105)

NI1No active interventionNo need to defend

Where there are no buildings, infrastructure or protected sites at risk and no defences are present. There is no requirement or intention to introduce defences.
