Summary management approach

Maintain structures performing a defence function to sustain important socio-economic benefits associated with the area. To avoid loss of inter-tidal area, some realignment of quay structures may be required in the long term, and there is room for roll back of defence to accommodate sea level rise. The requirement for this will be informed by ongoing monitoring.Land use planning, transport planning and any village strategy will need to support this approach through consideration of climate change adaptation. This should include improved resistance and resilience measures as well as potentially supporting roll back of property and infrastructure.

Management approaches depend on funding and relevant approvals and permissions. Adaptation to coastal change may be needed. If defences are present, some risk from flooding, erosion or ground instability may remain.
