Summary management approach
Realign the shoreline to accommodate the natural variability within the area while also enhancing the natural dune system present. Some loss of the dune front is expected (as has been observed since adoption of the SMP) but the estuary is expected to be a net sediment sink with foreshore levels potentially rising to meet sea level rise. Future strategy may also partly depend on how much sediment is removed from the system by dredging. The management approach at this location will be further informed by Cornwall Council's 'Making Space For Sand' project, which is being undertaken during the period 2021 - 2027, funded by the Environment Agency's Flood and Coastal Resilience and Innovation Programme.
