Summary management approach
Maintain defences in the short term from and including the existing defences to the east of the Sailing Club to the end of the coast protection structure at the start of Rock Dunes. In the medium to long term, the shoreline position will be moved to a more sustainable alignment. The short term defence maintenance will allow the important estuary access points and buildings associated with the RNLI and sailing and recreational activities to be moved to more sustainable positions in keeping with the agreed realignment option. This approach supports the SMP objectives of placing coastal communities, recreation and tourist facilities on a sustainable footing, while managing erosion and flood risks in a way that provides resilience to sea level rise and protects the natural environment.
