Summary management approach
Maintain defences in the short to medium term, including infrastructure providing a defence function among the historic harbour structures. In the longer term, consider some adjustment and realignment of the defences at the northern end of the beach to prevent the expected narrowing and lowering of the beach. This narrowing would reduce amenity and flood defence value of the beach. Managed realignment would not require significant change in defence position, especially if new defences are designed to absorb and attenuate (rather than simply deflect) wave energy.
