Summary management approach
Retain the strategic importance of Par Docks to support sustainable regeneration of local area.Some realignment to allow for sea level rise and to improve longer term sustainability should be considered in line with Par Sands, with the aim for only limited local works into the future. Future management effort needs to be aligned with delivery of the St. Austell Bay Resilient Regeneration (StARR) project, an objective of which is to reduce future impacts on inland residential properties resulting from tide locking, the severity and frequency of which will increase as sea levels rise. Cornwall Council's recently adopted Climate Emergency Development Plan Document (Feb 2023) identifies Par Docks as a candidate location for adoption of a Coastal Change Management Area within Land Use Planning Policy. This in turn should support the coomunity to identify plans and opportunities to adapt their sewttlement.
